Egypt Uprising - News from the Streets by Democracy Now

Democracy Now is one of the best independent sources for news around the world. Stories are presented through a unique non-commercial, anti-war lens. It is always astonishing to watch how differently the news can be reported when the "profitability" factor is removed. While mainstream media outlets — even public media like PBS and NPR — are biased toward their sponsors and spin the news to favor US corporate (military-industrial) interests, Democracy Now is funded, by contrast, entirely through contributions from listeners, viewers, and foundations.

Democracy Now is led by renowned independent journalist and author Amy Goodman. The broadcast makes a deliberate effort to include the voices of ordinary people from around the world who are directly affected by U.S. foreign policy — including grassroots leaders and peace activists, artists, academics and independent analysts. In addition, Democracy Now hosts real debates–debates between people who substantially disagree, such as between the White House or the Pentagon spokespeople on the one hand, and grassroots activists on the other.
