R.I.P. Arthur Evans

This early Gay Activist Alliance action was led in part by the recently deceased Arthur Evans here in New York City in 1971.

This was an interesting action because it aimed to make a public official accountable for discriminatory hate speech. It wasn't so much about gay marriage, as it was about the appropriate role of government and holding public figures accountable when they used the media for anti-gay "slander."

Evans died two days ago on September 11, 2011.

WHAT DO WE WANT? ... GAY POWER!
WHEN DO WE WANT IT? ... NOW!
